ABOUT

Originally from northern New York, contemporary painter Sean Dampier spent many years in Seattle, Los Angeles, and Orlando before settling in northeast Florida with his wife in 2015.

A lifelong artist and musician, Sean dedicated over a decade to working as a web designer and creative director at a digital marketing firm. However, during the Covid pandemic, he decided to pivot and focus on his art while spending time with his growing family.

Sean draws inspiration from a variety of sources, including nature, the spirit of animals like birds, horses, and bulls, as well as figurative and coastal themes. His work is characterized by a dynamic and energetic approach to mark-making, employing both brush and palette knife to create vibrant, layered paintings. Often, his pieces navigate the space between realistic Impressionism and expressive semi-abstraction, establishing a distinctive visual identity. In recent years, his preferred medium has been acrylic on canvas and paper, although he has a history of working with oils, drawing media and watercolor - and loves them all.

Ultimately, Sean aims to capture the ‘poetry in the paint’ through his art, fostering an emotional connection with viewers.

His work is currently on display at the gallery at Southern Grounds in Avondale, located in the historic downtown Jacksonville area, and at exhibitions at Christ Church in Ponte Vedra Beach. Additionally, his artwork has been featured for commercial displays and made appearances on the hit television series “Glee.”

A proud husband, father, and grandfather, Sean now creates from his home studio in Ponte Vedra, Florida.
